Peter Lindbergh at Galerie Dior in Paris is worth the trip
Peter Lindbergh is probably my favorite photographer when it comes to fashion and portrait photography, though it’s hard to pick just one, given how many great photographers there are. And besides, why choose only one?
Anyway, when I learned about the Peter Lindbergh exhibit at Galerie Dior in Paris, I knew I had to go. After a few failed attempts, I finally managed to visit Paris at the beginning of January.
The exhibit runs until May 4th, 2025 at Diors headquarters at 30 Avenue Montaigne, so you can still make it. However, it’s very popular, so be sure to book tickets in advance.
The gallery has a permanent exhibition that covers the history of Dior, which is also fascinating. If you do visit, make sure to take some time to explore that as well.
After the permanent exhibit, you move through several rooms showcasing the works of Peter Lindbergh. What makes this exhibit special is that it’s not just a collection of photographs, alongside most of the photos, the clothes featured in them are also displayed. As with everything Dior, there’s a great attention to detail, everything is beautifully arranged and perfectly lit. The exhibit offers a walk through the 30 years of work Peter did for Dior before his death in 2019 all the way from his first shoot in 1988 till the last shoot that was an epic walk through the history of Dior in New Yorks times square. If you like John Galliano you will also have a chance to see some of his original creations, both in real life and through the lens of Peter Lindbergh.
If you have any interest in photography or fashion, I highly recommend this exhibit. I’m so glad I decided to make the trip to Paris to see it. Of course, I also visited other places while I was there, which I’ll be writing about soon as well.
Below, you’ll find a small gallery with a few pictures from both the Lindbergh and permanent exhibits, as well as a short video that should give you an impression of the place.
